Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media analyst for more than twenty years. She's also a seasoned public speaker. Feminist Frequency is a site with video and an online blog on the representation of women in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. Feminist Frequency is a site dedicated to education, which examines women's role in the narratives of pop culture, is her brainchild. The site also has the executive director. Aiming to break down the stereotypes of women that have been portrayed in pop culture she also works to highlight issues related to targeted exploitation of women and the other marginalized groups of the Internet world. A graduate in political and social thought from York University Sarkeesian is also well-known as a sought-after presenter and has presented speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO Festival and the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. From an early age she was intrigued by the issue of gender identity and feminist thinking. While still at school in 2009, she created her Feminist Frequency website. The site was created by a woman in her early 20s who wanted to create the series of videos on the internet which would explore how gender is represented in games. But, she was the target of cyber-bullying. It was not enough to halt her. Instead, it made her more committed to be a feminist as well as media critic. Sarkeesian has been awarded numerous awards to recognize her prominent contributions to the field of feministism. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her role as a critic of media and also founded Feminist Frequency. The non-profit investigates women's representation in contemporary pop culture.
