Julia Fiona Roberts is the daughter of Betty Lou Bredemus, and Walter Grady Roberts. She was born on the 28th of October 1967, in Atlanta. Julia Fiona Roberts is the fourth generation of Roberts who reside in Atlanta. Her father was keen interest from a young age in theater. He performed on his Emory University campus in 1952 as well as in various productions in Atlanta. He joined the Air Force. While stationed in Biloxi in Mississippi, he appeared in a show with Betty Lou Bredemus. The two married in 1955 and their first child Eric Anthony was born in 1956. Walter attended Tulane University at New Orleans in the year 1957, after the couple left the Air Force of the United States. Walter joined Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio when the family relocated from Atlanta to Georgia's Decatur in the year 1960. Walter and Betty Lou financed their own production of a Sunday morning show for children, Bum Bum and His Buddies. Later that year they founded the Actors and Writers Workshop which operated for a period of six years. They welcomed in 1965 two new children: Lelisa Billingsley and Julia Billingsley.
